Robert Hart

Dr. Robert Hart is a Clinical Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (2012), an M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston (1997, 1993). His career transitioned from professional engineering practice to academia, with a focus on engineering education and pedagogical innovation. Dr. Hart coordinates and teaches the Mechanical Engineering senior capstone design course, emphasizing practical project implementation and team dynamics.

His research interests span microfluidics, thermal systems, and engineering education. Dr. Hart’s publications reflect a blend of experimental fluid dynamics and educational methodologies, often addressing real-world applications like solar energy systems and biomedical organ preservation.

Notable awards include the 2017 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award and Texas Society of Professional Engineers’ Outstanding Engineering Student Award (1993). He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and active in ASME, ASEE, and engineering honor societies.

Dr. Hart does not currently accept undergraduate advisees, but his teaching and research involve collaborative projects with industry partnerships and cross-disciplinary teams. He has contributed to curriculum development, mentoring capstone teams, and advancing engineering education standards through conference leadership and editorial roles.
