Robert G Howell is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Victoria, since 1980, promoted to full Professor in 1993. He previously served as a part-time tutor at Victoria University of Wellington (1977–1979) and a Teaching Fellow at the University of Illinois (1979–1980). His research focuses on intellectual property, cultural property, telecommunications law, private international law, and Asia-Pacific legal issues. He co-directed the International Intellectual Property Summer Program (2002–2007) and served on the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI) Board (2008–2018), becoming an Emeritus Member in 2018.
