Robert Futrell is an Associate Dean of Academic Programs and Professor of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), within the College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on far-right extremism, social movements, and environmental sociology. He co-authored two major books: American Swastika (on white power movements) and Out of Hiding (analyzing contemporary white supremacist extremism). His work has been featured in outlets like The New York Times and NPR.
He previously served as Chair of UNLV's Sociology Department (2013–2023) and received teaching awards, including the UNLV Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award. His courses cover social movements, environmental sociology, and the sociology of sport. He transitioned to his current associate dean role in Fall 2024.
