Robert Ferrier

Robert Ferrier is an Adjunct Faculty member in Jazz Studies and Jazz Guitar at the University of Massachusetts Amherst's Department of Music and Dance. He concurrently serves as a Professor and Coordinator of Jazz Studies at Holyoke Community College. Ferrier holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Berklee College of Music (BM) and a Master of Music in Jazz Composition/Arranging from UMass Amherst (MM).

His professional career includes extensive freelance performance and teaching engagements. Notable collaborators include Jon Faddis, Randy Brecker, Eddie Bert, John Fedchock, Claudio Roditi, Yusef Lateef, and Peter Erskine. His pedagogical influences include prominent educators such as John Laporta, William Leavitt, Herb Pomeroy, Bill Pierce, and George Garzone.

As an active performer, Ferrier focuses on jazz improvisation and ensemble leadership, while his teaching emphasizes contemporary jazz composition and instrumental pedagogy. His work bridges academic instruction with professional performance practices in the jazz idiom.
