About
Robert E. Braun is the Janeway Distinguished Chair and Professor of Mammalian Genetics at the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering (University of Maine). His research focuses on germline stem cell biology, spermatogenesis, and molecular regulation of testis development.
Research Themes
- Stem cell fate decisions in gamete development
- Testosterone signaling in Sertoli cell dynamics
- Translational gene regulation in germ cells
- Mechanisms of blood-testis barrier maintenance
Publications reveal expertise in mouse genetic models, chromatin modification (SIN3A), and nuclear receptor signaling (Nr4a1). His work combines forward/reverse genetics with advanced microscopy and biochemical analysis.
Honors
- Janeway Distinguished Chair
- NIH R00 HD055330 funding
- 5R00HD055330-05 project leadership
Advising: Mentored student Sri Pullagura on spermatogonial differentiation. Collaborates with teams studying germ cell tumors and retinoic acid signaling.
