Robby Roks

Robby Roks is an Associate Professor at the Department of Criminology within the Erasmus School of Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research focuses on organized crime, drug crime, and youth violence, with a particular emphasis on ethnographic methods and online deviance. He has conducted extensive studies on drill culture in Rotterdam, exploring its impact on social media and real-world violence.

Recent work includes analyses of institutional responses to criminal behavior, journalist safety, and desistance processes. Roks received the Erasmus Research Prize 2023 for his contributions to criminological research. He actively engages with media and public discourse, offering expert commentary on issues like youth violence and drill rap’s societal implications.

He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and has organized events such as the FORT-PORT Kick-off, focusing on research in the Rotterdam port area. His research spans policy evaluations, mixed-methods studies, and cultural criminology, reflecting a commitment to bridging academic inquiry with real-world challenges.
