Rob Reich is the McGregor-Girand Professor of Social Ethics of Science and Technology at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments as Professor of Political Science, Philosophy, and Education. He serves as Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI) and the Freeman Spogli Institute. Reich directs the Center for Ethics in Society and co-directs the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society. During 2024-25, he served as Senior Advisor to the United States Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute.
Reich's educational background includes a Ph.D. and M.A. in Philosophy of Education from Stanford University (1998), and a B.A. in Philosophy from Yale University (1991). Prior to graduate studies, he worked as a sixth-grade teacher at Rusk Elementary School in Houston, Texas.
