Rob Beswick is a Professor of Astrophysics at The University of Manchester, where he serves as Joint Director of the UK's SKA Regional Centre and Head of Science Operations and User Support for e-MERLIN/VLBI National Facility. He is affiliated with the School of Physics and Astronomy and based at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics. Beswick leads the LeMMINGs Legacy Survey, which uses e-MERLIN to image 300 nearby galaxies at sub-arcsecond resolution to study star-formation, AGN, supernovae, and galaxy evolution.
- Extragalactic radio astronomy
- High-resolution spectral line studies
- Transient event monitoring
- Radio interferometry expertise
His research output includes 161 publications and datasets like LeMMINGs V and LeMMINGs II, focusing on nuclear activity, galaxy morphology, and radio continuum surveys. He has contributed to SKA pathfinder projects, VLBI, and molecular gas studies in ULIRGs. Beswick received the Royal Astronomical Society Group Achievement award in 2015 and has peer-reviewed for journals like The Astrophysical Journal and Monthly Notices of RAS. He actively supervises PhD and MSc students using LeMMINGs data and engages in international collaborations with organizations like NSF, STFC, and Max-Planck-Institut fur Radioastronomie.
