Rita Singer

Rita Singer is an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Arts, Culture and Language, Bangor University. Her research focuses on European travel writing about Wales from 1750 to the present, with a particular interest in 18th- and 19th-century literary representations and modern cultural exchanges. She has collaborated with heritage organizations such as the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW) and the Council for Archives and Welsh Cultural Studies (CAWCS).

Her work integrates historical analysis with digital humanities, including the Teithwyr Ewropeaidd/European Travellers to Wales project, which produced an interactive website and educational resources. She has presented at conferences like Digital Pasts 2018, demonstrating innovative approaches to heritage dissemination. Her publications explore themes such as illustrated travel accounts, visitor book narratives, and the adaptation of nationalistic ideas in literature.

Rita has contributed to public engagement through exhibitions like EuroVisions: Wales through the eyes of European visitors, featured in Dehongli Cymru/Interpret Wales. Her research bridges historical scholarship and contemporary cultural practices, emphasizing Wales's transnational cultural connections.
