Rita Macedo is an Associate Professor at the Department of Conservation and Restoration, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She has been affiliated with FCT-UNL since 1999 and is a full member of the Institute of Art History (FCSH-UNL) and collaborating member of VICARTE.

Her research focuses on the intersection of Conservation and Restoration with Social Sciences and Humanities, particularly addressing challenges in preserving installation, performative, and time-based media artworks. Key contributions include creating the discipline and laboratory for Contemporary Art Preservation and Documentation (2010–2017).
Recent publications highlight her work on documentation as a conservation tool, material degradation analysis, and community engagement in heritage preservation. She has participated in international networks (RICAC, NeCCAR) and led funded projects like the Marie Curie ITN NACCA (2015–2019).
Rita Macedo supervises master's and doctoral theses and leads interdisciplinary research projects funded by European and national grants. She coordinates the Art Theory and Contemporary Art History curriculum at FCT-UNL and has developed innovative approaches to preserving intangible cultural heritage.
