Rima Rachid, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and serves as the Director of Allergen Immunotherapy for the Allergy and Asthma Program and Co-Director of the Food Allergy Program at Boston Children's Hospital. She is also an Attending Physician in the Division of Immunology where she provides specialized clinical care for children with complex allergic conditions.
Dr. Rachid received her medical degree from the American University of Beirut in 1995, followed by internship and residency training there through 1998. She completed fellowship training at Boston Children's Hospital in 2002 and additional residency training there in 2004. She is board certified in Allergy & Immunology by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology.
Her research focuses on food allergy mechanisms, oral immunotherapy, and biologic treatments. She has made significant contributions to understanding the microbiome's relationship to food allergy, metabolomic profiles in allergic children, and novel therapeutic approaches. Her work explores how regulatory T cells and cytokines influence immune tolerance and how biologics like omalizumab can enhance traditional immunotherapy approaches.
Dr. Rachid's extensive publication record (2020-2025) demonstrates a strong emphasis on translating research into clinical practice, with particular focus on improving outcomes for children with food allergies through innovative treatment strategies. Her research spans basic science investigations of immune mechanisms to practical clinical guidelines for managing food allergies in school settings.
She actively collaborates with colleagues across multiple disciplines including dermatology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, and otolaryngology to provide comprehensive care for children with allergic conditions. Dr. Rachid is instrumental in developing consensus guidelines for food allergy management and has contributed significantly to statements on preventing anaphylaxis and managing food allergies in educational settings.
