About
Dr. Ricky Stull is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Western Michigan University. His research focuses on understanding how enzymes control catalysis, with a specialization in flavin-dependent enzymes. The Stull Lab employs transient kinetics, spectroscopy, directed evolution, and protein engineering to study enzyme mechanisms and develop biotechnological applications. His work includes investigating enzymes like nicotine oxidoreductase for potential tobacco cessation therapies.
Education includes a Postdoc (University of Michigan, 2014–2019), Ph.D. (University of Michigan, 2009–2014), and B.S. (University of South Florida, 2005–2009).
Research interests span mechanistic enzymology, flavoenzymes, and protein engineering. His approach integrates spectroscopic analysis of enzyme-bound flavin cofactors to monitor active-site chemistry and adapt enzymes for medical applications.
