About
Dr. Rick Lupton is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change and the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems. His research focuses on modeling dynamic systems under uncertainty, particularly in sustainability assessment, material flow analysis, and renewable energy systems.
Education: PhD in Engineering (Frequency-domain modelling of floating wind turbines) from the University of Cambridge (2011-2015). Prior to Bath, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge (2015-2018) and a Load Calculations Engineer at GL Garrad Hassan (2009-2011).
Research interests include reducing carbon emissions through material efficiency, improving transparency in sustainability tools, and studying physical systems like wind turbines and solar-powered UAVs under uncertainty. He leads projects such as the C-THRU initiative on petrochemical supply chain emissions and the UK FIRES project on industrial resource efficiency.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and sustainable industry. Dr. Lupton is open to supervising doctoral students in areas like industrial ecology modeling, life cycle analysis, and uncertainty quantification.
Affiliated with multiple research centers and leading interdisciplinary projects, his contributions span academic publications, open-source tools, and industry collaborations.
