Richie Nimmo

Richie Nimmo is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Manchester, specializing in human-animal relations, political ecology, and posthumanist theory. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester (2007) and has held academic leadership roles including Sociology Programme Director and Undergraduate Teaching Director. His research examines socio-material entanglements in capitalist systems, with a focus on nonhuman labor, environmental crises, and the role of technology in mediating human-animal relations.

Teaching responsibilities include the Sociology of Human-Animal Relations and Environment and Society modules. He is a prolific editor and reviewer, serving on the Brill Human-Animal Studies book series editorial board and guest-editing special journal issues on topics like animal studies and technological interventions in agriculture. His work bridges theoretical contributions (e.g., Actor-Network Theory critiques) with empirical studies on dairy industry histories and smart beehive technologies.
