Richard Shusterman

Richard Shusterman is the Dorothy F. Schmidt Eminent Scholar in Humanities and Affiliate Professor in FAU's School of Architecture. A philosopher specializing in somaesthetics—the interdisciplinary study of bodily perception and performance—his research spans aesthetics, cultural theory, and embodiment studies.

Published works include Pragmatist Aesthetics (translated into 14 languages), Body Consciousness, Thinking through the Body, and Ars Erotica: Sex and Somaesthetics. He directs FAU's Center for Body, Mind, and Culture and has held academic appointments globally including in Paris, Berlin, Beijing, and Rome. Shusterman received education at Jerusalem and Oxford universities.
