Richard Salter

Richard Salter KC is a Visiting Professor at the Commercial Law Centre, University of Oxford. He is a practising barrister at 3 Verulam Buildings, Gray's Inn, and serves as a Deputy High Court Judge and arbitrator under ICC/LCIA rules. He has held significant roles including Bencher of the Inner Temple (1991), Chairman of the Bar Council Legal Services Committee (2010–2013), and will be Treasurer of the Inner Temple in 2025.

His expertise spans banking/financial law, with landmark cases including Bank Charges (House of Lords), Belmont v BNY, and Goldman Sachs v Novo Banco (Supreme Court). He chairs the Comité d'Honneur of Les Azuriales Opera and advises English Touring Opera and the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

Research interests include corporate finance law, insolvency law, and legal frameworks in financial systems. He edits All England Commercial Cases and contributed to the Oxford Law Foundation (2011–2017).
