Richard Riley is Professor and Chair in Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham's Institute of Applied Health Sciences within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences. With over 238 research outputs and 30 active or completed projects, he leads internationally recognized work in clinical prediction modeling and meta-analysis methodology.
His research focuses on clinical prediction modeling, meta-analysis of prognosis studies, and systematic review methodology. Key contributions include developing frameworks for sample size calculation in prediction model studies, external validation protocols, and individual participant data (IPD) analysis methods. His work spans diverse clinical areas including cardiovascular disease, endocrinology, and musculoskeletal conditions.
Current projects include the REVAMP initiative developing core methods for prognosis systematic reviews, predictive models for electrolyte abnormalities in hypertension treatment, and postpartum cardiovascular risk prediction incorporating pregnancy history. As Principal Investigator for major UK Research and Innovation and NIHR-funded projects, he collaborates extensively with clinical researchers across multiple specialties. His work with the UK Multiple Long-Term Conditions Trials Collaborative addresses complex multimorbidity research challenges.
