Richard Perkins

Dr. Richard Perkins is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and an Associate of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2002) and degrees from the University of Oxford (MSc and BSc). His research focuses on environmental policy, climate governance, sustainable finance, and corporate social responsibility, with recent emphasis on green bonds and the spatial dynamics of environmentally-oriented technologies.

Key research themes include: 1) Sustainable finance mechanisms (e.g., green bonds, ESG ratings), 2) Policy drivers for technology diffusion in emerging economies, and 3) Leveraging latecomer advantages for environmentally sustainable development pathways. He previously taught at the University of Plymouth and currently directs the MSc Environmental Policy and Regulation program.
