Richard Muscat

Richard Muscat serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology & Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery, University of Malta, while concurrently directing the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Biobanking.

His academic credentials include:

• B.Sc. (Hons) from the University of Liverpool
• M.Sc. from the University of London
• Ph.D. from the University of London

Research focuses on integrating physiological mechanisms with biochemical pathways in molecular medicine, leveraging biobanking infrastructure for translational research in disease pathogenesis and therapeutic development.

As department head and center director, Professor Muscat oversees academic programs, research strategy, and laboratory operations across the Biomedical Sciences Building in Msida.
