Richard Murphy

Richard Murphy is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. He previously served as the Founding Program Director of the Physician Assistant Program from 2011 to 2018. His academic background includes a Master of Business Administration (Northeastern University, 1987) and a Certificate in an unspecified field (Northeastern University, 1975).

His research focuses on opioid prescribing practices and public health responses in medical education. He has extensive clinical experience as Chief Physician Assistant at Tufts Medical Center (1975–2024) and held an Assistant Professor position in Cardiothoracic Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine (2003–2005).
