Richard Lawrence Joseph

Richard Lawrence Joseph is an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Northwestern - St. Paul, serving as Coordinator of Vocal Studies and Director of Opera, Voice, Diction, Sight Singing & Ear Training within the Academy of Music since 2016.

His educational background includes:

• D.M.A. in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota
• M.M. in Voice Performance from Florida State University
• B.A. in Music from Clearwater Christian College

As a tenor, Joseph maintains an active performance career in the Twin Cities artistic community while focusing his academic work on vocal pedagogy and opera production. His expertise spans voice technique, diction, sight singing, and ear training, with teaching directly informed by professional engagements at major regional institutions.

Joseph's artistic contributions include principal roles with Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Chorale, Metropolitan Symphony, and Lyra Baroque Orchestra, demonstrating the integration of performance practice and academic instruction in his professional identity.

He teaches Opera Workshop, voice lessons, and related courses while maintaining significant performing commitments, including recent appearances as Johnny Inkslinger in Vocal Essence's Paul Bunyan revival and Spoletta in Mill City Summer Opera's Tosca production.
