About
Dr. Richard Jagacinski is a Professor of Cognitive Psychology at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Michigan (1973) and a BSE from Princeton University (1968). His research focuses on rhythmic attention in athletic/musical performance, attention/memory in vehicular control, perceptual-motor skills in aging, and technology's impact on quality of life. He teaches courses on motor control, technology ethics, and dynamic systems analysis.
Research Interests:
- Attention and memory dynamics in driving and sports
- Perceptual-motor control in aging populations
- Cognitive modeling of spatio-temporal attention
- Rhythmic coordination in music and sports
- Human factors in technology design
Awards:
- Andrew P. Sage Best Paper Award (2018)
- Lumley Interdisciplinary Research Award (2018)
- Fellowships from APA divisions (Experimental, Aging, Applied Experimental)
- Phi Beta Kappa and NSF Graduate Fellowship
Labs & Projects: The Cognition in Motion Lab develops models to analyze attention distribution in driving and rhythmic performance, using reaction-diffusion frameworks and behavioral experiments. Current projects include measuring spatio-temporal attention waves and studying perceptual-motor independence in drumming/golf.
