Richard Jackson is a Repertoire professor at the Royal College of Music (RCM) within the Vocal & Opera faculty. Born in Cornwall, he holds a degree in French and German from King’s College, Cambridge, and trained at the Guildhall School. His career as a singer focused on contemporary music and song repertoire, including creating new opera roles at festivals in London, Amsterdam, and Mexico. He co-founded The Songmakers’ Almanac, contributing to performances and recordings, and originated the Christus role in Jonathan Miller's St Matthew Passion. Though retired from singing, he continues teaching at RCM and internationally in Beijing, Hong Kong, Australia, France, and Norway.
