Richard J. La is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), and a member of the Institute for Systems Research (ISR). He holds a B.S. from UMD (1994), and M.S. and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (1997, 2000). Prior to academia, he worked at Alcatel U.S.A. and Motorola Inc.
His research focuses on network science, resource allocation in communication systems, game theory applications, and contract theory. He has served on editorial boards for IEEE Transactions and technical committees for major conferences like INFOCOM and MobiHoc.
La has received the NSF CAREER Award (2003) and ISR Outstanding Faculty Award (2021). His advising includes Yijie Han (Ph.D. 2006, wireless ad-hoc networks). His work extends to interdisciplinary areas such as epidemiology modeling via game theory.
