Richard Holt

Dr. Richard Holt is a Research Fellow at the School of Biological and Medical Sciences at Oxford Brookes University. He is a member of Professor Nicola Ragge's research group, focusing on the genetic basis of developmental eye disorders such as anophthalmia, microphthalmia, and coloboma (AMC).

His research integrates whole exome/genome sequencing with functional genetic techniques to analyze gene variants in over 400 AMC patients and their families, including investigations into copy number variants. He teaches Evidence Based Medicine and Diagnostics and Genomic Medicine modules.

His peer-reviewed publications in journals like Nature Communications and Human Molecular Genetics explore genes such as MAB21L2, FBXW11, and GJA8 in eye development and neurodevelopmental disorders. He also bridges Christian theology with medical genetics ethics in his part-time PhD studies.
