Richard Hinton is an Adjunct Professor and Spatial Analysis Lab Manager in the Department of Geography & Environment at George Washington University. He manages the Spatial Analysis Laboratory (SAL) and oversees day-to-day operations for the Center for Urban & Environmental Research (CUER), the geospatial research arm of the Geography Department. His expertise spans over 20 years in cartography and GIS in both public and private sectors. He collaborates with organizations such as the World Bank, Children’s Hospital, and other GW departments on technical/statistical GIS research projects.
He teaches courses including GEOG 2104 (Introduction to Cartography and GIS), GEOG 4311/6311 (Open Source GIS), and GEOG 6304 (GIS I). His research focuses on geospatial technologies applied to urban and environmental challenges, leveraging interdisciplinary partnerships.
