Richard Higginbottom

Richard Higginbottom is a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the School of Digital Arts (SODA), Manchester Metropolitan University. His practice-based research explores urban space through photographic studies, focusing on human gesture, movement, and material interactions.

• Co-founded Surface Editions, an independent platform for photographic books and workshops (2024)
• Founded Tide Press (2015) for disseminating experimental photographic works

Research interests span:

• Urban space representation via photography
• Body language and movement documentation
• Experimental bookmaking techniques
• Interdisciplinary visual narratives

His publications include: Singularities (2023), Sea of Glass (2022), and Room One (2019), all employing innovative printing methods like Risograph and digital offset. Selected works were exhibited in the 2024 Thinking Outloud group exhibition at Manchester School of Art.
