Richard H. Schein

Richard H. Schein is Professor of Geography at the University of Kentucky specializing in cultural and historical geography. His research examines US urban landscapes through frameworks of land, property, race, racialization, and racism. Methodologically, he employs archival research and landscape analysis to investigate the historical production of urban spaces.

Schein holds affiliate appointments in African American and Africana Studies, the Commonwealth Institute for Black Studies, Social Theory, and Historic Preservation. His work critically engages with how racial hierarchies become embedded in American landscapes and property regimes through historical processes.
