Richard Goodman is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine. He holds advanced degrees from MIT (B.S. Chemistry, 1970) and the University of Pennsylvania (M.D. & Ph.D., 1976). His clinical training included internal medicine at Tufts-New England Medical Center and endocrinology fellowships at NEMC and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he co-discovered GLP-1—a foundational compound for weight-loss drugs like Ozempic. Goodman served as founding director of the Molecular Medicine division at NEMC, fostering an environment where four faculty members later joined the National Academy of Sciences.
