Richard C. Sha is a Professor in the Department of Literature within American University's College of Arts & Sciences. His scholarship examines intersections between Romantic literature, science history, emotion studies, and philosophy. Awarded the 2018 Jean-Pierre Barricelli Prize for Imagination and Science in Romanticism, his work explores how scientific concepts shaped Romantic understandings of imagination, emotion, and consciousness.
Research interests include aesthetics, epistemology in Romantic science, and consciousness theories across literature and cognitive science. Teaching includes courses on scientific change, ethics, and consciousness through literary frameworks.
