Rich Rabone is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Warwick, specializing in early modern Spanish literature and intellectual culture. He previously held academic positions at the University of Oxford, including a Junior Research Fellowship at Merton College and lectureships at several colleges.

Rich's research centers on the reception of classical thought in early modern Spain, with a particular focus on the Aristotelian golden mean, literary imitation, and the cultural significance of Seville in the sixteenth century. He also explores translation, emblem books, and literary wit in Golden Age literature. His work bridges literature, philosophy, and intellectual history.
His recent publications reflect a strong engagement with classical authority, moral philosophy, and mythological symbolism. Themes such as textual authority in Cervantes, allegorical representation of vice and virtue, and Horatian influences in religious poetry demonstrate interdisciplinary depth and a sustained interest in the dialogue between antiquity and early modernity.

Rich Rabone serves as Director of Graduate Studies at the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance and as Exam Secretary for the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (SMLC). He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate modules on Golden Age literature, Baroque uncertainty, gender in Hispanic writing, and Renaissance drama. He welcomes research students in any area of early modern Iberian culture.
He is currently working on a major project on sixteenth-century Seville’s poetic culture and a study of literary imitation in Góngora’s Fábula de Polifemo y Galatea. He also leads an active supervisory role and contributes to academic administration and curriculum development.
