Nemirovsky’s work emphasizes the role of affect and physical experience in mathematical understanding, often collaborating with museums globally. He has also contributed to pedagogical reforms in Latin America and Spain, advocating for emancipatory teaching practices that recognize students’ intellectual equality.
Key projects include Math Core for Museums (NSF-funded, $3M), exploring how museums can foster mathematical literacy, and Tangibility for Teaching and Learning Mathematics (NSF, $2M), which developed tangible tools for student engagement. His research spans over 40 years, with grants totaling millions and spanning continents. Nemirovsky has been honored with the European Languages Seal (2011) and featured in 30 Teachers Who Marked Spanish Education (2005), recognizing his transformative impact on educational theory and practice.
His pedagogical philosophy challenges traditional didactic approaches, prioritizing student autonomy and contextualized learning. He has trained educators across Spain, advocating for inclusive classrooms where literacy is seen as a lifelong, unpredictable process. Collaborations with institutions like the Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and the Movement Unit highlight his commitment to bridging theory and practice in education and health.
