Rhiannon Stephens is a Professor of History at Columbia University and a Shelby Cullom Davis Center Fellow (2023–24). Her research focuses on the long-term history of East Africa, with particular emphasis on gender, social and economic difference, and climate change. She holds an office in G-15 Dickinson Hall and can be contacted at rs4627@princeton.edu.
Her recent work includes the book Poverty and Wealth in East Africa: A Conceptual History, examining economic concepts in eastern Uganda across two millennia. At the Davis Center, she is investigating intersections of gender, power, and climate on the Swahili Coast from 500 to 1900 CE.
