Rex Clark is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He earned his BA from Memorial University in 1967. His research focuses on marxian anthropology, class dynamics, social inequality, and ethnographic studies of Newfoundland and the Shetland Islands. Current projects include an historical anthropology of merchant capitalism in Newfoundland and theoretical work on cultural dimensions of social relations of appropriation.
Clark’s early research applied Levi-Straussian frameworks to Shetland Island myth and ritual. His recent fieldwork examines class and cultural dynamics during Newfoundland’s merchant capitalism era. He is based in Queen’s College, Room QC-4006, and reachable via email or phone (709-864-8889).
