About
Reuven Agami is a Professor at the Department of Genetics, ErasmusMC, Rotterdam University, since 2009. He serves as Head of the Division of Biological Stress Responses at The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) since June 2014. His career spans roles as Full Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor at NKI, with a focus on RNA biology and cancer research.
- PhD in Molecular Genetics (Weizmann Institute, 1999)
- MSc in Biochemistry (Weizmann Institute, 1993)
His research centers on RNA interference, microRNAs, enhancer RNAs, mRNA translation regulation, and functional genetic screens. Using ribosome profiling, his lab explores protein translation in cancer (e.g., p53 and Myc genes) and mitochondria-related diseases. His work has led to novel tools for gene expression knockdown and enhancer studies.
He has received prestigious awards, including multiple ERC grants, NWO-VICI, EMBO fellowships, and the Dr. Joseph Steiner Prize. Agami maintains editorial roles at EMBO, EMBOreports, and Oncogene journals.
