About
Dr Reuben Staples is a Research Fellow at the School of Dentistry, The University of Queensland. His research focuses on biomaterials engineering, 3D printing applications in dentistry, and regenerative strategies for periodontal and alveolar bone regeneration. He specializes in developing fiber-guided scaffolds to enhance tissue integration and has contributed to advancements in dental implant technologies. His work bridges clinical dentistry and biomedical engineering, with a particular emphasis on translational research.
Dr Staples earned his PhD in 2022 from The University of Queensland, investigating fiber-guiding scaffold manufacturing for periodontal ligament attachment. His research interests include biomaterials design, laser surface modification of implants, and the integration of emerging technologies like mHealth for dental diagnostics during pandemics.
He has secured multiple grants, including projects on 3D-printed resorbable scaffolds for bone augmentation and fiber-guided scaffold functionalization. Dr Staples supervises PhD candidates exploring 3D bioprinting for oral regeneration and melt electrowritten scaffolds for soft tissue augmentation. He is actively involved in the Centre for Orofacial Regeneration, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation (COR3), contributing to interdisciplinary research initiatives.
His publications highlight innovations in scaffold design, microbial biofilm analysis, and clinical applications of 3D printing. Dr Staples is dedicated to advancing regenerative dentistry through material science and translational medicine.
