Reto Weber

Reto Weber is a Lecturer at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. With a background as a Master Mariner and extensive maritime experience, including roles as a deckhand, captain, and maritime pilot, he specializes in nautical education and maritime safety. He holds an MSc in Maritime Affairs and has contributed to EU projects focusing on emergent technologies and maritime transport. His expertise includes ship handling, navigation in confined waters, bridge team management, and the application of autonomous shipping technologies.

Education: He studied in Switzerland, England, and Sweden, obtaining his Master Mariner’s license and MSc in Maritime Affairs. Before joining Chalmers in 2010, he served as a maritime pilot on the Swedish West Coast.

Research: His work addresses challenges in maritime decarbonization, autonomous surface ships (MASS), and social aspects within the maritime sector. He manages the Full Mission Bridge Simulator at Chalmers, integrating advanced simulations into education and research.
