Retika Adhikari

Retika Adhikari is an Assistant Professor in the Department of American Culture at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and the Asian/Pacific Islander American (A/PIA) Studies Program. She works at the intersection of anthropology and ethnic studies, focusing on refugee experiences and humanitarian interventions.

• PhD, Syracuse University (2018)

Her research examines refugee racialization in postindustrial U.S. cities and critiques humanitarian frameworks through ethnographic studies in Nepal and Central New York. She has published in American Anthropologist.

Dr. Adhikari has received prestigious awards, including the ACLS Fellowship (2021-2022) and the ACLS Centennial Fellow in Dynamics of Place (2021). She previously held a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2019-2021).
