Renée Winter is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Contemporary History, University of Vienna. She coordinates the MA Contemporary History and Media program and leads the FWF-funded project 'Video as Self-Technology: Self-Confrontation, Self-Empowerment, and Autobiographical Practices' since 2018.
- Focus areas: media history, post-National Socialist era, gender history, migration/postcolonialism in Austria, and video as self-technology.
Her research explores how video technology transformed self-representation practices globally (1960s–2000s), particularly in psychotherapy, education, and social movements. Recent publications analyze feminist video activism, audiovisual memory, and transnational media metaphors.
