Renqiu Yu is a Emeritus Professor of History and Research Professor of Asian Studies at Purchase College, affiliated with the School of Humanities and Department of History. He holds a BA from Sun Yat-sen University (China), an MA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a PhD from New York University.
Research Interests: His work centers on Chinese history, Chinese American history, and broader themes in Asian Studies, Cultural Studies, and Ethnic Studies. His notable publication To Save China, To Save Ourselves: The Chinese Hand Laundry Alliance of New York (1992) earned critical acclaim, including the 1993 Outstanding Book in History award from the Association for Asian American Studies. Additional contributions include the novel Qing Ke (Dinner Parties, 2007) and critical essays in publications like Shucheng and Shanghai Shuping.

Advising and Grants: He coordinates the minor in Asian Studies at Purchase College and serves as a senior lecturer at the China Institute in America, frequently lecturing on Chinese history for high school teachers and the public.
