Rengong Zhang

Rengong (Alex) Zhang is an Assistant Professor at the Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa. He holds a B.A. from East China Normal University, M.A. from College of William & Mary, Ph.D. from University of Alberta, and certificates in Fintech (NYU), Big Data Analytics (MIT), and ESG Investing (CFA Institute). His research focuses on using big data to study workplace safety, labor markets, capital markets, and accounting practices. He has published in journals such as Journal of Finance and Quantitative Analysis and Organization Science.

Before joining Telfer, Dr. Zhang worked at City University of Hong Kong, where he led the establishment of Asia's first cloud-based ESG analytics lab. He frequently speaks on Fintech and data analytics at educational forums and financial institutions like S&P Global and AIA.

His funded research includes projects on workplace safety, automation's impact on safety, and sustainability education. Notable grants include a $172,709 Hong Kong UGC grant for a student-led ESG platform and a $14,748 Telfer grant on gender diversity and stock markets.

Dr. Zhang's advisory and teaching include areas like data analytics in accounting and financial accounting. He leads research labs focused on integrating technology with sustainability and financial education.
