Rene Sotelo is Professor of Clinical Urology specializing in robotic and minimally invasive surgery. With over 2,539 robotic/laparoscopic procedures performed, he pioneered techniques for urinary fistulae repair, benign prostate surgery, and single-port belly-button/natural orifice approaches. Previously chaired urology departments in Venezuela and directed continental minimally invasive surgery initiatives.
Research contributions include 50+ peer-reviewed papers, 28 book chapters, and 3 textbooks. Editorial board service for European Urology, BJUI, and Journal of Robotic Surgery. Surgical innovations focus on robotic management of complex urinary fistulae, prostate enlargement, and penile cancer lymph node dissection.
