Renato Rozental

Renato Rozental, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research focuses on translating basic neuroscience discoveries into clinical neuroprotection strategies. Key areas include understanding mechanisms of neuronal survival in the penumbra following asphyxia, ischemia, and traumatic brain injury (TBI), as well as developing biotechnological tools for therapeutic interventions in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

Professional interests emphasize modulating cell-cell communication, systemic/focal brain temperature, and abnormal electrical activity (e.g., seizures, spreading depression) to mitigate adverse neurological outcomes. This work aims to provide blueprints for community health solutions targeting acute neurological emergencies.
