Renate Strobl

Renate Strobl, PhD, is a Lecturer and Senior Researcher at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, University of Lucerne. She holds a PhD in Economics (University of Basel, 2017) and combines academic rigor with fieldwork in health and development economics.

Her research focuses on experimental methods in health and development economics, particularly examining informal risk-coping strategies, formal insurance interactions, and barriers to health insurance access in low-income settings. She has conducted field experiments with cocoa farmers in Côte d'Ivoire and laboratory experiments with Swiss university students regarding digitalization impacts.

Current affiliations include the Chair of Labour Economics at the University of Basel and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, where she contributes to studies on educational/occupational choices in digitalization and health insurance effects on household well-being in rural Côte d'Ivoire.
