Renate Scheibe is a Professor of Plant Physiology at the University of Osnabrück, a position she has held since 1990. She is actively involved in the scientific community, currently serving as a member of the Ombudsman for Scientific Integrity in Germany since January 2025 and as a member of the DFG Ombudsman since 2017. Previously, she served as Dean of the Department of Biology/Chemistry and Director of the Botanical Garden at Osnabrück University from 1994 to 1999.

- Studied pharmacy at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, obtaining her license in 1973
- Doctorate in 1978 from the University of Bayreuth
- Habilitation in botany in 1984 at Bayreuth, becoming a private lecturer
Professor Scheibe's research focuses on flexible adaptations of energy metabolism during stress and molecular mechanisms maintaining redox homeostasis in plants. Her teaching encompasses plant physiology, basic and secondary metabolism, autecology, and molecular regulatory mechanisms. She has significantly advanced plant biology through editorial leadership as Subject Editor of Physiologia Plantarum (1998-2006) and current board membership at PeerJ and AoB Plants.
Her scientific recognitions include:
- Corresponding Member Award of the American Society of Plant Biology (ASPB) in 2015
- Honorary membership in the German Botanical Society awarded in 2017
Throughout her career, Professor Scheibe has provided extensive academic service on the Conference of Biological Departments board, Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology (FESPB), and as spokesperson for the Plant Physiology Section of the German Botanical Society. She contributed to research integrity as a German Research Foundation (DFG) reviewer from 1996 to 2004 and remains active in editorial governance.
