Remco Spithoven

Remco Spithoven is a Lecturer in Online Resilience at Saxion University of Applied Sciences and a coordinating lecturer in the Cyber Resilient NL Expertise Network. He holds a PhD in social sciences with an interdisciplinary dissertation on perceived insecurity.

His academic background includes a Bachelor's degree in Integrated Safety Science and a Master's degree in Safety Governance in the Social Sciences. His research focuses on cyber resilience, risk communication, victim prevention, crime prevention, risk perception, safety perception, and integrated safety, applying both qualitative and quantitative methods to improve societal safety.

He serves as unpaid editor-in-chief for the Journal for Safety and the Basic/Advanced Book of Integral Safety Science at Boom publishers since 2019–2021. As a co-supervisor for PhD students, he actively contributes to academic mentorship while publishing in scientific journals and practitioner-oriented outlets.

Remco is a frequent media expert and lecturer, affiliated with the Online Resilience research group where he collaborates across disciplines to address contemporary safety challenges.
