Dr. Remco Raben is an Associate Professor at the Department of History and Art History (Faculty of Humanities, Utrecht University) and concurrently holds a professorship in colonial and postcolonial literary and cultural history at the University of Amsterdam. His work focuses on non-Western history, particularly Asia, with expertise in international relations, world history, and decolonization.
Research interests include the 'long decolonization' of Indonesia (1920s–1960s), postcolonial Netherlands cultural history, and visual cultures in non-Western contexts. He teaches courses such as 'Asia and the West,' 'The Rise of Asia,' and 'Globalization and World Order.'
He is affiliated with the Research Institute for History and Art History and contributes to programs like the Honours Programme 'International Relations in Historical Perspective.' His office is located at Drift 6, Room 1.02B in Utrecht.
