Reima Suomi is Professor of Information Systems Science at the University of Turku, Finland, with additional appointments as part-time Professor at Huazhong Normal University (China) and Docent at the University of Oulu. His research spans 30+ years in digital government infrastructure across local, regional, and national contexts.
His primary research focuses on healthcare information systems and eGovernment, with significant contributions to Finland's electronic prescription system and circular economy waste management. He examines governance structures for inter-organizational systems and unique cross-domain studies comparing railway and internet revolutions in socioeconomic development.
Professor Suomi founded and chaired the "Well-being in the Information Society" conference series (2006-2022) and served as vice-chair of the WHO-affiliated Baltic Region Healthy Cities Association (2004-2020). He currently conducts research with the "Digitale Mittelstadt der Zukunft" group during his 2024 visiting period at the Department of Information Systems.
