Reidar Tyssen is a Professor in the Department of Behavioral Medicine at the University of Oslo. His research focuses on physician mental health, occupational stress, substance abuse, suicidology, psychiatric epidemiology, and resilience in healthcare professionals. He leads the NORDOC 20-year longitudinal study of Norwegian medical students and physicians.
His work explores work-home balance, alcohol dependence, lifestyle counseling, and mindfulness interventions for medical students. Key collaborations include institutions in Bergen, Tromsø, British Columbia, and Reykjavik.
Current projects include cross-cultural clinical challenges in psychiatry, veterinarian mental health (NORVET study), and mindfulness training effects on coping strategies. He has contributed to occupational health policies and medical education reforms.
