Regine Paul is a Professor at the Department of Politics and Public Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Bergen (UiB). She is recognized for her excellence in teaching, having received the 'Excellent Teacher' award in 2022, and is deeply committed to pedagogical innovation and reflective practice. Her research spans comparative public policy, migration governance, risk regulation, and the politics of artificial intelligence.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of interpretive policy analysis, constructivist political sociology, and cultural political economy. She investigates how ideas, power, and material structures shape policy, with empirical expertise in migration, risk regulation, and AI governance. She is currently leading an NFR-funded UTFORSK project on 'A global classroom for global challenges' (2025–2028), promoting decolonial teaching and international student mobilities. She is also a co-proposer of a research center on the societal consequences of AI and serves as Editor of Critical Policy Studies.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on the global governance of AI, critical policy studies, and the political economy of migration. She has edited major handbooks on AI and public policy and on migration governance, and her monograph The Global Political Economy of Artificial Intelligence is forthcoming in 2025. Her work frequently appears in leading journals such as Regulation & Governance, Critical Policy Studies, and Socio-Economic Review.

Regine Paul actively supervises PhD candidates and has contributed to curriculum development, notably co-designing UiB’s English-speaking MA program The Politics and Governance of Global Challenges, which has become highly competitive. Her leadership in research, teaching, and academic service underscores her role as a leading scholar in critical policy and governance studies.
